Prompts for NaPoWriMo

Read a poem and write a poem.
Aim for 10-15 by Wednesday. Please submit drafts so far on Friday.

Hey, all. We're back for a short day today.

Our Zoom class is at 1:00. On Wednesday, I will meet with periods 4, 5, and 6 at 9:00 and with periods 2 and 3 at 10:00. The link is the same. Please make sure your first and last name are visible so I can admit you to the meeting and we can avoid the Zoom bombers. Here is the link:

Our poem today is "Harlem" by Langston Hughes.

Read through the poem 3-4 times (preferably out loud).
What feeling/tone do you get from the poem?
What is it about?
What poetic elements do you notice happening in this poem?
Annotate and make sense of this poem.

Prompts for today:

Write about a poem dream you have.

"Find your favorite painting. Write a piece with the same title."

Below are the images and titles for a few of my favorites.

And from Writer's Digest: "Write a purpose poem. Many people like to have a purpose in life. Some folks do things on purpose. And yes, sometimes it appears there is no purpose to life’s events. Whatever drives you, I hope you’re able to pair purpose (or lack of purpose) with your poetry today.

Remember: These prompts are just springboards; you have the freedom to jump in any direction you want. In other words, it’s more important to write a new poem than to stick to the prompt."
