Ms. Nakada's NaPoWriMo Day 4 Post

Our poem today is: "A Song In The Front Yard" by Gwendolyn Brooks.

Read through the poem 2-3 times (preferably out loud).
  • What feeling/tone do you get from the poem?
  • What is it about?
  • What poetic elements do you notice happening in this poem?
  • Annotate and make sense of this poem.
Now for our prompts:

Inspired by Gwendolyn Brooks' poem, write about the things you wish you could do that you a forbidden to do.

WTWrites2019_DAY-4.jpgWinter Tangerine prompt:

"Write about the last time you belly-laughed."

And finally, the Writer's Digest prompt:

"For today’s prompt, take the phrase “Follow (blank),” replace the blank with a new word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem. Possible titles include: “Follow the Leader,” “Follow Me on Twitter,” “Follow Your Heart,” and/or “Follow the Light.” So many things to follow or not.

Remember: These prompts are just springboards; you have the freedom to jump in any direction you want. In other words, it’s more important to write a new poem than to stick to the prompt."
